Spikes messenger bags rule Harvard living.
I sent my oldest son to Harvard for the first time. There are of course a lot of issues to resolve - living away from home being first and foremost. Whereas at home he drove himself to and from high school every day he is now going to have to walk around campus, manage his own budget and clean up after himself with no input from his managing and controlling mother. I do have the opportunity to influence how he looks though. Men do not carry purses – they drive cars. Young men also stuff their pockets. I went in search of a “purse” that an active, intelligent and non-geeky 18 year old would lug about to hold his iPad and other precious belongings that never leave his sight. Obviously anything that looks like a purse, even though that is exactly what it is, is not going to work so I went to Jack Georges for inspiration. I knew I needed something like a satchel that would be sufficiently sophisticated for a Harvard pre-law student that would also be spacious enough for what he needed to carry, but not so bulky that he would end up leaving it on the floor of his room. It also needed to be able to withstand general neglect and look better as it got used more. Of course Jack Georges had the perfect solution; their Spikes messenger bag– durable, with a manly and non-girly, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harrison Ford appeal and roomy enough to carry his precious iPad. Multiple pockets cleverly hidden under the messenger style flap and on the back, the masculine non-purse-like strap and the price sold me instantly. I am relieved to say that not only does my son use it every day he has actually created his entire “I am a Harvard pre-law student” identity around it.
